Description
The Systems Engineer will be responsible to prepare solar photovoltaic array designs using DC design tools provided. The array design consists of AutoCAD drawings of the physical layout, pile foundation plans, DC calculations, DC single line diagrams, PV source and output circuit details, combiner boxes and overcurrent protection selections. •Minimum of 10 years engineering experience in electrical engineering, preferably in the solar or DC electrical field. •Experience with solar PV Inverter technology a plus •Experience and skills relating to construction electrical design drawing package. •Experience in low and medium voltage electrical equipment specifications such as switchgear, transformers, cable etc. •Experience and skills relating to electrical systems analysis including short circuit, load flow, protective device coordination, and arc flash are preferred but not required. •Familiarity with applicable local codes and regulations. •Professional Engineer Registration preferred, but not required. •Experience with International Codes and Standards a plus •Experience with preparing International design packages a plus •Experience with preparing and obtaining NRTL listings and certifications a plus •Experience with developing a new product from concept to deployment including working closely with external suppliers and vendors a plus. •Review and check design engineering deliverables such as installation details, single lines, PCS layouts, connection diagrams, cable schedules, power and instrumentation plans under minimal supervision. •Review equipment specifications for DC and medium voltage equipment such as switchgear, transformers, cables, load break switches, etc. •Knowledge and understanding of work flow/information flow between disciplines •Knowledge and understanding of schedule constraints and information requirements for the production of electrical deliverables. •Review a construction bill of materials. •Participate in project meetings and conference calls. •Provide verbal and written project status updates and reports. •Ensure industry design codes and standards are evaluated and applied. •Gather and review applicable codes, standards, and vendor and client requirements and communicate requirements to project team. •Ensure all work is performed within safety standards. •Acts as liaison with the Project Engineer, other discipline engineers and Systems Engineering relating to engineering progress, quality, scope and technical/permitting issues as well as interface with customer on technical issues.
Requirements
•Must have a BS degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university •Must possess technical knowledge of related engineering systems and applications, engineering calculations, construction methods and materials, and engineering application of computer programs •The ability to interact with others effectively within the corporate environment •Ability to take direction, identify problems, develop solutions, conduct analysis independently and in collaboration with others •Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks and projects •Creative thinker with the ability to make decisions and execute effectively •Proficient knowledge of electrical engineering systems and proficiency in spreadsheets. •Good verbal and written communication skills. •Good time management skills and demonstrated efficiency in providing engineering support on multiple concurrent projects. •Knowledge and application of the current version of the National Electrical Code (NEC) •Familiarity with relevant codes and standards such as the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), etc. •Excellent interpersonal skills required. •Proficient use of all Microsoft Office Suite programs •Will sit and stand for long periods of time during the day. •Will walk, climb stairs and on equipment. •May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist •May lift up to 25 lbs. •Required to use hands to finger, lift, handle, carry or feel objects. •May stoop, kneel, bend, talk and hear. •Specific vision abilities are required.
